LEATHER GLOVE / レザーグローブ

The ROARS ORIGINAL leather gloves have been a favorite among our customers ever since they were first released. This season, they come in classic black and two brand new colors: WHITE. We've also added an S-sized version to our line-up.

The gloves' design is characterized by a shirred pattern, the same technique that's used to make the moving parts of racing gear more flexible. Here at ROARS ORIGINAL, we’ve turned it to an integral part of our aesthetic philosophy. The shirring is achieved by gathering the leather with threads of urethane and rubber, forming a pattern of consecutive rows. These elastic rows expand when the hands and fingers move, which feels great when pulling or releasing levers and makes these gloves the ultimate accessory for every motorcycle rider.

The gloves are hand-made in Kagawa prefecture, Japan, which boasts a long leather working tradition. It requires great skill and dedication to shirr leather, and there are only a few experienced craftsmen left who are capable of applying this technique. Who knows, with the number of craftsmen ever dwindling, our gloves might become a real rarity over time! Their astonishingly fine details and three-dimensional feel are something to treasure even today.

The leather is dyed first, then pigmented in the same color. The color might be transferred to the skin when sweating, but it can easily be washed off. Even when caught in the rain, we've never had any particular problems in terms of quality or color fastness, except for a slight feeling of shrinkage, as is always the case with leather products. Dry the gloves inside out when they get wet. We've already done this several times and haven’t experienced any issues so far. (If you do, please let us know!)

Be aware, though, that rough surfaces (for example, on handle grips and brakes) can scrape off the color on the palm-side of the gloves. We once used the gloves for mountain climbing and the color wore off a little, probably when gripping rocks and stones. So please keep in mind that handling rough surfaces could damage the color!

We’ve been using our own gloves for years and they're still surviving well after all this time. We wear them every day when commuting to work, so we think they're rather sturdy. Of course, gloves are obviously not meant to last forever. If you want to use your favorite gloves for as long as possible, we recommend wearing them in rotation with other pairs.
